30 Day Fanfic Meme - Day 7
30 Days Fanfiction Meme
7 – Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
I can't say that I have. I mean, besides slash and porn fic I do like to read some gen fic or plotty fic now and again. Of course the best kind of fic has a healthy mix of all those things. ;D But I think for me, the main thing is the separation between canon and headcanon. Sure I might have read some fic that changes my headcanon of a character, or adds to it, but canon is canon, so a fic won't change my opinion of how a character is canonically represented. Does that make sense? Urgh. I mean, I can see how exploring a character that you might normally dislike could possibly lead you to liking them due to things that haven't been explained in canon, but that's pretty much pure speculation. But I guess that's supposed to be the fun of fic, right? Exploring the possibilities that the creator of the canon didn't get into? Maybe I should just be simple and say, "No." XD
